TNA starts house to house campaign in Jaffna

The Tamil National Alliance began a house to house campaign in Valigamam North and in Vadamaradchi in Jaffna. “We wanted to start on a quiet note, going directly to the people to understand their problems and attitudes”, said Mr. Selvarajah Gajendran, a TNA candidate and a former President of the Jaffna University Students’ Union. On Sunday the TNA held an introductory public meeting in Chavakachcheri.

All TNA candidates for Jaffna except Mr. N. Sri Kantha participated at the meeting.

Meanwhile TNA candidates who went on house to house canvassing introduced themselves and explained the policies of the alliance to families and groups of persons in the villages and refugee camps where they canvassed during the weekend.

The first campaign posters to appear in Jaffna were those of ex. MP Mr. M. K Sivajiligam, highlighting his protests against the Sri Lanka armed forces’ high security zones in the northern peninsula.

In keeping with the general policy of the TNA in many parts of the northeast not to campaign for individual candidates but for the policies of the alliance, Mr. Sivajilingam’s poster did not carry the personal preference number allocated to him by the commissioner of elections.
