The Tamil National Alliance Thursday nominated Mr.Jospeh Pararajasingham of Batticaloa and Mr.M.K.Eelaventhan of Jaffna for the posts of two national list parliamentarians through the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK),
political sources said.
The General Secretary of the ITAK and Jaffna district parliamentarian, Mr. Mavai Senathirajah, Thursday faxed the Commissioner of Election the party's decision to nominate Mr.Joseph Pararajasingham and Mr.Eeelaventhan, sources
said. Mr. Pararajasingham failed to get elected in the Batticaloa electoral district in the last general election. Political observers say he could not garner enough preference votes as he was forcefully confined in his residence during the lection campaign by the renegade Karuna group. Mr. Pararajasingham entered politics during the 1960s as a member of the ITAK under the leadership of the late Tamil leader, Mr.S.J.V.Chelvanayakam. He became the Batticaloa district parliamentarian in the first
parliamentary election held in 1989 under the district proportionate electoral system. Mr.M.K.Eelaventhan is a founder member of the ITAK and a trusted supporter of Mr.S.J.V.Chelvanayakam. He has authored several articles on Tamil politics and Hinduism, sources said.
