Key paramilitary operative shot dead in Colombo

A person believed to be a senior paramilitary operative working with the Sri Lanka military intelligence was shot dead Saturday around 12.15 p.m. by unidentified gunmen in the heart of Colombo. Paramilitary sources in the capital identified the dead man as the dreaded 'PLOTE Mohan'.

The name of the dead person, according to an identity card found on his person, is Kandaiah Yogarajah of Central Camp on the Batticaloa Ampara border, Police said.

The man was traveling in an auto rickshaw on Duplication Road in Bambalapitiya, a busy suburb of Colombo, when gunmen riding motorbikes had fired on him. A senior Police officer said he was a key military intelligence informant.
