NY Tamils celebrate Heroes Day

Residents of New York and surrounding counties celebrated Heroes Day at Queens High School in Queens, New York, Saturday evening, event organizers said. Flag of the United States and of Tamil Eelam were jointly hoisted at the beginning of the event. Cultural events were held following floral tributes by the attendees to the memorial to 'Maaveerar' setup on stage.
Legal advisor to the Liberation Tigers, Visuwanathan Rudrakumaran, President of World Tamil Coordinating Committee (WTCC), Dr Jeyalingam, Director of WTCC, K Karunaharan and Ms Sinnathangam Saravanmuttu, called as "Usan Amma" by Tamil activists spoke at the event. Organizers said similar events are to be held on the 4th December in Florida, New Jersey, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle. In Ohio and in Los Angeles Maaveerar Day events are scheduled to be held on 5th December.
