Mannar court remands six suspects in heroin case

Mr.N.M.M.Abdullah Mannar Magistrate Thursday ordered remand till April 12 for six suspects, four Indians and two Sri Lankan Tamils on a report filed by Talaimannar Police that they were allegedly transporting heroin from India by boat, legal sources said.
Sri Lanka Navy arrested five of the six suspects (four Indians and a Sri Lankan) when they were on their way to Talaimannar shore in a boat with 1.200 kg of heroin. The SLN handed all the five to the Talaimannar Police. After preliminary investigation the Police took another Sri Lankan Tamil Santhanam Silva into custody in Pesalai, the sources said. Talaimannar Police Thursday produced in Mannar Magistrate's court all the six suspects for allegedly transporting heroin. Four Indian suspects, Baluchamy Subramaniam, Thangavel Kannan, Sellarasa Murugavel and Nagaretnam Maarivel, all from Ramanathapuram in South India and two Sri Lankan
suspects M.Nobertsingham and A.Santhanam Silva of Mannar were ordered remand for two weeks, the sources said.
