Thamilchelvan urges EU to reconsider stand on LTTE

Political Head of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. S. P. Thamilchelvan appealed to the European Union for reconsideration of the recent decision made by the EU that "delegations from the LTTE will no longer be received in any of the EU Member States until further notice." At a news conference held at Kilinochi, Wednesday evening, Mr. Thamilchelvan pointed out that the EU's move is ill-timed to coincide with the "anti-Tamil" campaign advanced through political propaganda platforms in the South.
He remarked that EU's decision will appease, and indeed will give moral support to, extreme Sinhala nationalists who are demanding the abrogation of the peace-talks and resumption of war. This is a serious setback to peace process, LTTE political head noted. Mr. Thamilchelvan recalled that EU’s support was a key factor in the LTTE's decision to enter into negotiations with the Government of Sri Lanka. "We urge the European Union to desist from being partial to one party and to rescind its recent declaration," Thamilchelvan said.
