Funeral for Kopay principal held

Funeral for the slain Principal of Kopay Christian College, Mr Sivakadadcham, was held in Kopay Thursday. Students, public and School principals, teachers paid their last respects during the funeral ceremony at his Kopay residence and when the coffin was taken to Kopay Hindu cemetary in procession for cremation, sources said. Mr Sivakadadcham was gunned down by unknown assailants in front of his house Tuesday night.
Kopay Christian College student band led the procession from the Principal's residence to the School premises where Assistant Principal Ms Kailaimahan presided a memorial ceremony. Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians MK Eelaventhan, M Sivanesan, and S Gajendran, Jaffna District Education Officer, S Vigneswaran, Tamil Teachers Union Secretary K Panchalingam and several others lit the memorial lamp. All schools in Jaffna were closed responding to a request from the Jaffna Campus Students Consortium. Students have planned to boycott school until 19 October in protest of the killing. Students continued to block the Jaffna-Point Pedro road and the Kaithady-Urumpirai road at Kopay junction. Students also shouted slogans against the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP).
