Moulavi L.Shakil, Secretary of the Muslim Peoples' Office in Jaffna, Tuesday said the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has been extending full support for the displaced Muslims to resettle in the Jaffna district. "Some sinister forces are spreading unfounded allegation in the South that LTTE is obstructing resettlement," said Moulavi Shakil addressing a press conference at his office located along Navalar Road in Jaffna town Tuesday.
"Elements in the South with vested interests are spreading this rumor, distributing handbills and organizing demonstrations to meet their own political ends and to disrupt the amicable relationship and the understanding now prevails between Muslims and Tamils in Jaffna district," he added. Muslim Peoples' Office is looking after the welfare and interests of the resettled Muslim people in the Jaffna district. The media conference was held to brief the progress in resettling displaced Muslim families in the district, sources said. Commenting on the presidential poll fixed for November 17, Moulavi Shakil said resettled Muslims in Jaffna would join the Tamil people in their protest if Tamils decide to boycott the poll. He added both candidates Messrs Ranil Wickremasinghe and Mahinda Rajapakse have failed to bring any fresh ideas in their manifestos regarding the question of solving the problems of Tamil speaking people.
