HOPE donates computers to Trinco schools

Hope for the Children (HOPE), a non-governmental organization based in London, Wednesday under the project "Tsunami Disaster Relief UK Schools Link," donated computers, printers and furniture costing about eight hundred thousand rupees to three village schools affected by tsunami in the Trincomalee district through the Trincomalee Young Men Christian Association (YMCA).

Dr.Bob Parson, Founder and Director of the HOPE handed over these materials to heads of the three schools, Sambaltivu Tamil Maha Vidiyalayam, Muttur Muslim Ladies College and Muttur Al-Hilal Boys College at an event held in the Trincomalee YMCA hall. Each school is supplied with two computers with printers, sources said.

Principals Mr.K.Yogananthan, Ms M.Careem and Mr.N.A.Cader on behalf of their schools accepted the donations, sources said.

Mr.J.W.M.Borham, YMCA President presided.

Ms Sara and Mr. Christopher, Directors of the HOPE also participated.

Selected students of these three schools also attended the event.

Dr.Bob Parson said education is the most important aspect in the life of a child. Tsunami has rendered several children parentless. HOPE is dedicated to serve these children with the facilities to uplift their education and make them useful citizens to their community, he said.

Mr.K.Thilakaretnam, Trincomalee Zonal Director of Education, and Mr.Jospeh of YMCA also spoke. Mr.G.A.Francis, Assistant Director of Education (English Language Unit) presided the event.

Principals thanked HOPE and the Trincomalee YMCA for assisting them in the development of education of tsunami-affected students in their villages.
