SL Parliament adjourned for May 9 following disruption by TNA MPs

Sri Lanka's parliament was adjourned till May 9 following continued disruption of its proceedings by Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians protesting against the killings of Tamil civilians in the North East by the State armed forces in connivance with para military groups and the latest victim being Mr.V.Vanniyasingham, President of the Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples Forum shot dead on Thursday morning in front of his work place, Trincomalee main branch of the Bank of Ceylon (BoC).

The SL parliament resumed its sitting Thursday morning to debate the motion on extending the State of Emergency that was declared on August 13 last year following the assassination of Mr.Lakshman Kadirgamar, former Foreign Minister.

On being informed that unidentified person had killed Mr.V.Vigneswaran, parliamentarians of TNA rushed into the well of the House and shouted against the killing.

The Speaker Mr.W.M.J.Lokkubandara adjourned the sittings for about 10 minutes, as he was unable to conduct the business due to disruption by TNA MPs. Thereafter he summoned the leaders of political parties represented in parliament for a discussion.

TNA MPs continued their protest in the well of the house when the sitting being reconvened on the orders of the Speaker. However TNA MPs continued their protest.

The Speaker thereafter adjourned the parliament for May 9.
