Elilan blames SLA Intelligence for Vigneswaran slaying

Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), in a statement issued Friday, blamed the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and its intelligence operatives for the slaying of Mr.V.Vigneswaran, President of the Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples' Forum (TPTDF), in an area declared high security zone, and surrounded by vital security installations of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Police, sources in Trincomalee said.

The killing took place at the main entrance of the Trincomalee branch of the Bank of Ceylon located in the high security zone surrounded by the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command, office of the Senior Superintendent of Police and Harbor Police along the Inner Harbor Road in front of Trincomalee harbor, Mr.Elilan said in his statement "LTTE vehemently condemns the Vigneswaran killing and such crime would lead to serious consequence," warned Mr.Elilan. Mr.Vigneswaran was key figure in leading an intense campaign to ensure the rights of Tamil people in Trincomalee town and elsewhere, Mr.Elilan noted. The body of Mr.Vigneswaran is to be taken to Muttur east and Killinochchi for public viewing and last respects by the people of the areas, sources said.
