SLMM files report on Vigneswaran killing

Trincomalee District Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Ove Janssen, who rushed to the assasination site where Trincomalee Tamil activist Vigneswaran was slain, has sent a report with photographs taken at the scene to his headquarters in Colombo after interviewing several persons who have witnessed the assasination. SLMM sources said Mr. V. Vigneswaran had been frequently complaining to SLMM that his life was in danger.

The President of the Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples' Forum (TDTPF), Vigneswaran, had finally met Mr.Ove Janssen, Trincomalee head of the SLMM at the latter's office Thursday evening with representatives of Trincomalee District Fisheries Co-operative Societies Federation regarding the restriction and ban imposed by the Sri Lanka Navy on fishing in Trincomalee Sea. According to SLMM sources, the body of Mr.Vigneswaran was found lying on the ground about fifteen feet from the main gate inside the premises of the bank branch. Two gunshot injuries were found on the body, one through the head and other abdomen. The death was instantaneous, SLMM sources said. Mr.Rohan Abeyagunawardene, Deputy Inspector General of Police for the eastern region with his Senior Superintendent of Police and Police Superintendents visited the scene.
