Mannar mourns death of Vigneswaran

A weeklong mourning for the slain Trincomalee Tamil activist Mr.V.Vigneswaran who was shot dead Friday in Trincomalee town commenced Saturday in Mannar district in response to an appeal by the District Tamil Resurgence Movement, sources said.
Black flags were hoisted on business establishments and residences. Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan, Wanni district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian, said in a statement that Mr.Vigneswaran worked against forces were suppressing the rights of Tamil community in the Trincomalee district. The killing took place inside the High Security Zone, amid presence of number of Sri Lanka security personnel and the Government of Sri Lanka should be held accountable for the death and to identify the perpetrators of the crime. The death of Mr.Vigneswaran is an irreparable loss for Tamil people, said the Mannar District Tamil Resurgence Movement in a statement.
