Kinniya, Muttur Council chairmen take oaths

Mr.M.A.M.Salihu, Attorney-at-Law of the United National Party (UNP), took oaths as the Chairman of the newly created Kinniya Urban Council (UC), Mr.K.M.Thowfeek, leader of the Independent Group 1 took as the Chairman of Muttur PS, and Mr.A.C.Kaniyoon of the UNP took oaths as Chairman of Kinniya PS Saturday, sources said.
Mr. K.M.Thowfeek is the former Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) parliamentarian of the Trincomalee district. The UNP captured the administration of the Kinniya UC with four seats; the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) won two seats and the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK) one seat. All the seven members were present at the occasion. The administration of the Kinniya Pradesiya Sabah also goes to UNP. UNP won five seats and UPFA two seats. UPFA members boycotted the event when the UNP Chairman of the Kinniya PS took oaths on Saturday at the Kurinchakenri PS sub office, sources said. The Independent Group 01 led by Mr.K.M.Thowfeek won the eleven-member Muttur PS. Independent Group won 7 seats and the ITAK four seats. All the eleven members of the council took oaths Saturday, sources said.
