The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Monday blamed the Sri Lanka Army(SLA) for the grenade attack at the offices of three international non-governmental organizations, Inter-SOS, ZOA and Non-Violent Peace Force located in the government controlled Muttur town in the Trincomalee district on Sunday afternoon. "We vehemently deny the accusation made by the SLA spokesman that LTTE was responsible the grenade attack. We categorically state that the SLA has carried out this attack," said Mr.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head in a statement.
Unidentified men came in motorbikes and lobbed grenades at the offices of
three INGOs Sunday afternoon. Almost a week ago anonymous notices were
distributed calling these INGOs not to continue humanitarian,
rehabilitation and reconstruction works in the LTTE held Muttur east
villages and to stop all such works immediately. We have information that
the SLA was behind the threat issued to these INGOs, said the LTTE statement. LTTE has appealed to these INGOs to continue their humanitarian services to the war and tsunami affected people in the Muttur east as usual without heeding to the threat, and extended its wholehearted co-operation for them in future too. LTTE highly commended these INGOs for implementing several rehabilitation and reconstruction projects with dedication for the betterment of the war and tsunami affected people in the Muttur east and other areas under its control in Muttur and Eachchilampathu divisions in the Trincomalee district
amid stringent restrictions and conditions imposed by the Sri Lanka Army in transporting materials needed for such works in the Muttur east.
