Father of five shot dead in Mannar

A 39-year old resident of Periyamurippu village in Mannar district, and a father of five children, was shot dead by unidentified persons Friday morning, sources in Mannar said. The victim's body was found near the suspension bridge along Madhu Road to Kunchukulam road.

The victim has been identified as Sivalingam Krishnan, a fisherman, sources said.

Relatives of Krishnan removed the body from the scene of crime to Periyamurippu village. On receipt of the information a police team visited the scene and recovered 9 mm bullets.

Murunkan Police instructed the Periyamurippu Grama Niladhari Officer totake steps to hand over the body of the victim at the Mannar generalhospital as police personnel could not visit Periyamurippu village due to security reasons, sources said.

The deceased had been earlier a member of the LTTE and later left the movement and was living in the village with his family, sources said.
