Jaffna Mayor succumbs to injuries

Sri Lankan Police sources in Jaffna confirmed that the Jaffna Mayor Pon Sivapalan who was critically wounded in the explosion this morning in Nallur died at the Jaffna hospital around 12.45 p.m.
His funeral arrangements are being made by the TULF in Colombo sources said. Pon Sivapalan was appointed Jaffna Mayor by the Tamil United Liberation Front following the assasination of Sarojini Yogeswaran who was elected Mayor in January this year. The roof of the Municipal office building in Nallur had caved due to the blast. Police sources said that the explosion was caused by powerful device concealed in the premises. Meanwhile media sources in Colombo said that a group of press persons are being flown by the Ministry of Defence to Jaffna today.
