JHU decides against submitting proposal to APRC

Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), all monks' party said Monday that it will not table its proposals to the All Party Representatives Committee (APRC) to find a political solution to the ethnic conflict, political sources in Colombo said. JHU reasoned that Mahinda Chinthanaya mandates a solution on the basis of unitary concept of constitution and therefore no alternate proposals are necessary.

JHU leader Venerable Ellawella Methananda Thera said his party will support any political solution to the ethnic question without violating the Mahinda Chinthanaya principles endorsed by the masses in Sri Lanka in the 2005 November presidential election.

Meanwhile, the main opposition United National Party (UNP) said that it will not participate in the APRC meeting until the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) submits its political proposals before March 15.

Tissa Attanayake, general secretary of the UNP Monday confirmed this stand once again, sources in Colombo said.
