EPDP council member shot dead

Kanakasabhai Rajathurai, 46, an Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) member of the Karaveddy Pradheshiya Sabha (local government body) in the Jaffna peninsula was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Manthikai this evening around 7.45 p.m. said sources.

Mr.Rajathurai was returning home from the local EPDP office when he was accosted near his house by the gunmen who had gone looking for him at his house earlier in the evening.

Police sources in Jaffna said that he was shot six times in the chest.

The Pradheshiya Sabha member is also employed as a clerk at the Pt.Pedro Pradheshiya Sabha.
