The body of a youth with gun shot wounds was recovered Wednesday morning within Sri Lanka Army (SLA) High Security Zone in the heart of Jaffna town at Konan Thottam Veethy near KKS road-Hospital road junction, sources in Jaffna said. The youth had been missing since Tuesday evening after he went to escort his brother's daughter from school.
The youth was identified as Mohamed Ali Nanthakumar, 26, the son of a Muslim father and a resident of A.V. Road, Colombuthurai, Jaffna. He may have been abducted and killed elsewhere before being brought in a vehicle and dumped at Konan Thottam Veethy area, residents of the area said. The body was recovered from an area where there is constant movement of SLA troops during curfew hours and the body could not have been dumped there without
the SLA soldiers' knowledge, the residents added. Civil sources in Jaffna said, the circumstances point to SLA or SLA-backed paramilitiaries for complicity in the killing. Jaffna Acting Magistrate Mr. M. Thirunavkarasu conducted inquiry at the site and directed the body to be handed over to Jaffna Teaching hospital.
