IDP injured in SLA artillery attack in Poonakari

A young family man currently residing at a camp for Internally Displaced People (IDP) located at Thikkuvil, Jeyapuram on Poonakari-Muzhangaavil road, was seriously injured during the artillery attack by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) on Poonakari, Sunday around 1:50 p.m.

The injured civilian was identified as Chellappah Thangarasa, 28, from Netpulavu, Poonakari.

The victim was admitted to Ki'linochchi hospital for treatment.

Thangarasa, displaced from Netpulavu last year on Aug.11, had gone to his coconut farm Sunday morning around 9:00 a.m. to collect coconuts.

As he was getting ready to transport the coconuts around 1:50 p.m, SLA launched artillery attack from their bases located across Ki'laali lagoon and a few shells exploded in his farm causing severe injuries on his back and thighs.
