STF recovers claymore mines, arrests youths in Batticaloa

Special Task Force (STF) troopers on patrol recovered two claymore mines Thursday morning in Saththurukkondaan and Kaavaththamunai areas in Batticaloa District and arrested two Tamil youths, STF sources said.

One of the claymore devices, was hidden close to the main road in Saththurukko'ndaan, and was recovered by STF troops Thursday at 10:00 a.m. STF later arrested two youths from the area on suspicion of planting the devices.

A second claymore was recovered by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) buried near a lagoon in Kaavaththamunai, Vaazhaichcheanai. The device was intended to be transported to another location Vazhaichcheanai police said.
