Shanmugalingan appointed new Vice-Chancellor of Jaffna University

Prof. Nagalingam Shanmugalingan assumed duties as the new Vice-Chancellor of Jaffna University Wednesday on being appointed for the post by University Grants Commission (UGC). The new Vice-Chancellor took part in prayers offered at the Parameswara Saiva temple located in Jaffna university environs along with several deans, lecturers, staff and hundreds of undergraduates, sources in Jaffna said.
Prof. Shanmugalingan who has been serving as the dean of the faculty of sociology in Jaffna university for a long time is succeeding Prof. Kumaravadivel. A three-member committee appointed by the UGC recommended Prof. Shanmugalingan for the post of Jaffna University Vice-Chancellor. The new Vice-Chancellor will have to steer through pressing situations as his predecessors had to in the past, civil society sources in Jaffna reflected.
