Youth shot dead by paramilitary in Batticaloa

A youth about to participate in a cricket tournament was shot and killed Sunday morning 11:00 a.m. in Mausoor Mowlana playgrounds, Maruthamunai within Kalmunai police division in Ampaa'rai district.

The victim, identified as Pushparaja Jeyanthan, 28, is a resident of Archunar road, Paandiruppu and a driver by profession had just arrived in the grounds when gunmen belonging to paramilitary Karuna group arrived on the scene and after shooting at the victim, fled from the spot. Pushparajah was killed on the spot, police said.

The body of the deceased was recovered and kept at Kalmunai Ashraff hospital for postmortem examination.

Kalmunai police have begun investigation into the killing.

Maruthamunai is located 34 km south of Batticaloa city.
