New TNA, UPFA parliamentarians take oaths

Mr.Raseen Mohamed Imam,60, was sworn in as the new national list parliamentarian of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) by the Speaker Mr.W.J.M.Lokkubandara in the parliament when it resumed its sittings Tuesday, A lawyer by profession 60 year-old Mr. Imam filled the vacancy created by the continuous absence of the Mr.M.K.Eelavventhan for more than three months, parliamentary sources said.
Raseen Mohamed Imam has been a member of the Tamil Federal Party since 1978. He was member of the Jaffna Municipal Council. He has been practicing as a lawyer in Colombo. Meanwhile, Mr.Priyankara Jayaratne was sworn in as United People Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian of the Puththalam district to fill the vacancy created by the death of Mr.D.M.Dassanayake. Mr.Dassanayake held the post of Nation Building Minister at that time when he was killed in a claymore mine explosion that took place at Ja-ela during the first week of January.
