Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), one time ally of the ruling
United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government, Tuesday claimed that
two of its supporters were abducted by the bodyguards of a cabinet
minister. They were putting up posters about an upcoming meeting when
the minister who was passing by stopped and ordered his bodyguards to
take the two men away, JVP sources said.
The two men were dropped in the Hambantota police area later. Meanwhile two JVP party offices in Netolpitiya and Walasmulla in
Hambantota had been attacked by suspected UPFA supporters who came in
vans, JVP sources said. Complaints have been made in regard to the abduction and setting fire
to party offices to relevant police stations by the JVP leadership.
