Mr. Thiruchelvam killed in bomb blast

Mr. Neelan Thiruchelvam was killed in a bomb blast while travelling from his house at Rosmi Place to his office at Kency Road at 9.10 this mornig.

The driver, an inspector and four policemen who were also travelling with Mr. Thiruchelvam were injured.

The blast was caused by a suicide bomber, said police sources, who was seated on the back seat of a motorbike that came from Ward Place road.

The sucide bomber is though to have jumped into the car in which Mr. Thiruchelvam was travelling while the motorbike driver escaped with minor injuries, the sources said.

Mr. Thiruchlevam became a member of parliament in 1994 when he was nominated from the TULF's national list.

The police blamed the LTTE for the attack.
