Youth shot dead

A youth was shot dead by the Sri Lanka Army soldiers during a search operation in Allarai, a village in the Thenmaradchi Division on the Jaffna Peninsula, this morning, said sources.

The youth, believed to be around 25, was shot dead in front of Allarai Tamil Mixed School, while cycling.

The SLA claimed he was a member of the Liberation Tigers. He is yet to identified.

Meanwhile a retired principal, Mr.Weerakulasingham,74, was severely assaulted by the Special Task Forces elite troops in Kallar, south of Batticaloa this morning. He was admitted at the Kallar hospital. Five youths who went for fishing were also assaulted by the STF personnel, sources said.
