Transformers blasted

Two high power transformers were blasted in the hill country town of Bandarawela 206 km from Colombo in the early hours of the morning today. This is the third set of transformers to be destroyed in the tea growing central province of the island.

Sri Lankan Police blamed the Liberation Tigers for the attack on the transformers which were located in Welimada road in the Bandarawela town.

Government intelligence agencies are worried that the attack on transformers in the hill country is aimed at destabilising the vital tea industry of the island.
