Mirusuvil massacre accused to stand in identification parade

The six Sri Lankan Army (SLA) soldiers accused of murdering eight Tamil civilians and burying their bodies in Mirusuvil North, Jaffna were ordered to be kept in remand prison until 10th of January and to appear in an identification parade on the 3rd of January by the Chavakachcheri District Court Judge A. Premshankar Friday evening, said sources in Jaffna.

Judge Premshankar told the witnesses that he has been instructed by the Chief Justice to conduct the murder proceedings in 'Trial-at-bar' with three judges and that he asks for full cooperation from the witnesses.

"Although these inquiries cannot bring back to life the murdered civilians, we can prevent such incidents happening in the future. Therefore, you should come forward to disclose all known details related to the massacre," the Judged said further to the witnesses.

Meanwhile, Ponnuthurai Maheswaran who first alerted the local authorities of the massacre, and Jesutha Theivakulasingam, the young widow of a murder victim, gave testimony at the Kodikamam Police station on Saturday morning.

Sources said Police have arrested more SLA soldiers suspected to have involvement in the massacre and are questioning them.
