"The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) should transform itself into a movement that would struggle democratically for the Liberation of the Tamil people. The TULF should take forward the struggle for liberation that was begun by our leader S.J.V Chelvanayagam. We got a mandate from the Tamil people at the general elections in 1977 for establishing the separate state of Tamil Eelam. We have no moral right to ask the Liberation Tigers to give up their goal. We should begin a democratic people's struggle to achieve our liberation," said Mavai Senathirajah, MP for Jaffna, speaking at a seminar organised by the East Lanka Journalists' Association in Batticaloa Saturday.
The seminar, fifth in the series by the association, was held in the auditorium of the Teachers Training College in Batticaloa. "Sinhala chauvinists forces are trying to brand the legitimate struggle of our people as terrorism. Many organisations that fought for the liberation of their nations were called terrorist. We should unite to defeat this. There is only state terrorism in Sri Lanka. We should continue our struggle until the moment is right for liberation. Our political program should be in accordance with the agenda of the Liberation Tigers," Mr. Senathirajah said. Mr. Shan Thavarajah, secretary of the East Lanka Journalists' Association presided.
