North East celebrates Heroes Day

Towns, villages, remotest hamlets in the northeast province held by
government forces and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are gaily decorated
with yellow and red flags and cut outs depicting the Tamil liberation
struggle observing the final day of the 'Maaveerar Naal' (Heroes Day)
celebrations Wednesday. Jaffna, Batticaloa, Vavuniya and Mannar Maveerar
Naal final day celebrations are being held on a grad scale.
The eastern port town of Trincomalee town has been decorated with yellow
and red flags with Tiger emblem and cut outs. Tamil Eelam liberation songs
being played through loudhailers at every junction in the east port town. For the first time since the signing of the ceasefire agreement unarmed
police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order in the
cosmopolitan town. Shops have been closed. Several hundreds of people including students throng the Trincomalee Hindu
Cultural hall Wednesday from early morning to pay homage to the photographs
of 'Maveerar' displayed.
