Jaffna remembers late Tamil leader G.G.Ponnambalam

The twenty sixth-death anniversary of the late Tamil leader
Mr.G.G.Ponnamabalam, the founder president of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC) and a popular leader of Tamils in the 50s was observed in Jaffna today, according to sources in Jaffna.
The statue of late leader G.G.Ponnambalam situated at Gurunagar in Jaffna town was Sunday morning garlanded by Mr. G.G.Gajendrakumar, grandson of late leader " G.G." and the son of late junior G.G.Ponnambalam (Kumar).
Mr.Gajendrakumar is also a Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian. A former commissioner of Jaffna Municipal Council Mr.C.V.K.Sivagnanam speaking at the occasion recalled the services of late leader G.G.Ponnambalam to the Tamil community. At the Jaffna office of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), Mr. S.Aravindan, Jaffna Municipal Council member garlanded the photograph of late leader Mr.
G.G. Ponnambalam. Late leader Mr. G. G. Ponnambalam was one of the three founder leaders of the Tamil United Front formed in 1972. The other two were late
Mr.S.J.V.Chelvanayakam of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kachchai
(Federal Party) and Mr.Soumiamoorthy Thondaman, leader of the Ceylon
Workers Congress. Meanwhile on representation made by Mr.Gajendrakumar security officials
Sunday agreed to reduce the check points from three to one for Gurunagar
fishermen to go to sea for fishing with immediate effect. Earlier Gurunagar
fishermen had to go through three check points in the area to go for
fishing in the Jaffna lagoon, sources said.
