Human skeleton recovered in Chavakachcheri

A human skeleton was recovered in Chavakachcheri in Thenmaradchchi area in Jaffna district Monday by civilians who were clearing their lands for resettlement, sources said. On an application made the Chavakachcheri police, the Chavakachcheri Magistrate Mr.K.Ariyanayagam ordered the skeleton to be sent to the government analyst, legal sources said.

The Magistrate further instructed the Police to obtain advice from the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer in this regard, sources said.

The Police believe that the skeleton recovered Monday belongs one of several persons who was killed in the military operation of the Sri Lanka Army launched in the year 2000 in Thenmaradchchi area, sources said.

The police also recovered remnants of several women's clothing and some spent bullets near the skeleton, sources said.
