Ex Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University dies

The former Vice Chancellor of the Eastern University of Sri Lanka, Prof. K.D. Arulpragasam, died in Colombo Thursday of natural causes, and the Eastern University community is mourning the death, sources in Batticaloa said.
Prof. Arulpragasam was the first Vice Chancellor when the University was started. At the time of death he was 72. After his primary education at St. Thomas College in Colombo, he continued his education at St. Johns College in Jaffna, Hartley College in Point Pedro and Ananda College in Colombo. After graduating from the University of Colombo with a degree in zoology, Professor Arulpragasam continued his postgraduate studies in London, England. He was later deputy head of the Education Services Commission, and a member of the University Grants Commission. According to his family, his funeral rites will take place at the Kanata cemetery Saturday.The Esatern University students have released a statement of condolences.
