New SLA commander post created for the East

Sri Lanka's Defense Ministry has created the new post of Security Forces Commander for the Eastern province, which is to take effect from August 15,Friday, and Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi of the Sri Lanka Army has 
been appointed to that post, military sources said. 
Major General Sarath Fonseka is currently serving as the Northern Province 
Security Forces Commander and his headquarters is located at the Palaly military 
base in Jaffna district. Likewise, Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi will 
be in charge of the entire Eastern province, the sources said The SLA headquarters has effected new changes in the army's top 
command, which are to take effect from August 15. The creation of the new 
post of Security Forces Commander for the East is one of the changes. Major General Sunil Tennekoon has been appointed new General Officer Commanding (GOC) for the 22 Division in Trincomalee effective August 15, succeeding 
Major General John Senevira who is to take up his duties at the Army Headquarters. Major General Gamini Hettiaratchi will assume duties as GOC for the 21 Division in Vavuniya, the sources said.
