The Jaffna Additional Magistrate, Ms. Srinithi Nandasekaran, Tuesday ordered a soldier of the Sri Lanka Army, Mr. Liyanage Somawanse, to pay two thousand rupees as charity in a case in which he had been charged with driving an army truck negligently, causing damage to two vehicles belonging to civilians, legal sources said.

The accused faced another charge of driving the vehicle without a license. The Magistrate accepted the driving license of the Sri Lanka Army produced by the accused, sources said.

According to prosecution, that the SLA truck driven by the accused had collided with two vehicles belonging to civilians at Madduvil in Thenamaradchi on the Jaffna-Kandy highway, on March 19 this year, sources said.

The Jaffna police filed plaint against the accused soldier at the Jaffna magistrate's court. The accused appeared in court Tuesday on an arrest warrant as he failed to appear on earlier dates of inquiry, legal sources said.
