SLA officer, soldier killed

An army officer and a trainee soldier were killed when a hand grenade accidentally exploded during a training session on Friday evening at the Boogoda Army camp in Anuradhapura, the Defence ministry said. Another officer was injured in the explosion.

A trainee soldier and his instructor, a non-commissioned officer, were killed when they were taking part in a training exercise.

The grenade thrown by the trainee had exploded midair, killing him and his instructor.

The injured officer has been transferred to the Colombo military hospital.
