Yogaswamy was born as Sadasivan on 21 May 1872 to Ambalavanar and Sinnachi Amma not far from the Kandaswamy temple in Maviddapuram, Sri Lanka.

He was a disciple of Chellapaswamy, and after his guru' death, sat on the roots of a huge olive ("Iluppai") tree in Colombuthurai for the next few years. After that he was persuaded to inhabit a small hut in Colombuthurai. Devotees sought solace and spiritual guidance from Yogaswamy until his death when he reached 91 years.
