Tamil Women Confluence held in Thampalakamam[TamilNet, Monday, 18 April 2005, 17:47 GMT]About eight hundred Tamil women participated in a Women Confluence ('Penngal Sangamam') Monday held at Thampalakamam, a traditional Tamil village in the Trincomalee district Monday in connection with the seventeenth death anniversary of Annai Poopathi, which falls on Tuesday (April 19), sources said.
Annai Poopathi died on 9th April 1988 after fasting for thirty-one days from 19th March 1988 demanding that the Government of India should stop the war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and initiate talks with the LTTE.
Ms Kaaronja presided. She outlined the successful role played by Tamil women in the liberation struggle under the able guidance of national leader. Women were the backbone of the development of the Tamil nation, she added. Several women speakers addressed the Confluence on several aspects of the development of women. Ms Kaaronja (extreme left) is seen in the head table with women speakers. Women participate in the seminar.
