Brick labourer shot dead in Kalmunai

Mr Sulaimanlebbai Mohammed Esmail, 33, a labourer at a brick quarry in Nainakaddu Sammanthurai in Kalmunai was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Thursday night at 11-00 pm while he was sleeping in a shed near the quarry, sources said.

Sammanthurai Police said Assailant had used automatic rifle and the motives for the killing are not clear.

Body of Esmail is lying in Sammanthurai hospital mortuary for the post-mortem examinations. Sammanthurai Police are conducting investigations.

Sammanthurai is located 10 km west of Kalmunai in Amparai district.

Meanwhile, unknown assailants hurled a grenade at the house of a businessman located at 2nd division Puliyady Road Valaichenai on Friday early morning at 4-30 a.m.

The grenade not explore. Valaichenai police is conducting investigation into the incident

Valaichenai located 32 km north of Batticaloa.
