Police Sergeant, two men injured in Vavuniya blasts[TamilNet, Saturday, 29 July 2006, 15:55 GMT]A Sri Lankan Police Sergeant and two young men were injured in two separate grenade blasts in Vavuniya, Saturday evening, police in the northern town said. The Police sergeant and a civilian passer-by were injured in a grenade attack at Kulumaddu junction, 4 k.m. from Vavuniya on the Mannar road, the police said. Gunfire was heard in the area for nearly 20 minuates, civilians sources said. In a separate incident, a young man was injured in a blast at Pandarikulam, around 7 p.m., the police added. The injured were tranfered to Vavuniya hospital. The police officer was later transfered to Anuradhapura hopital, the police said.
