Vaharai patients are getting ready to leave . Dr. Thurairasa Varatharasa said that Vaharai has become a region which cannot be covered by the Geneva conventions which allow urgent humanitarian assistance to those affected in war torn regions. We had a new born infant weighing less than 800 grams needing urgent treatment in our hospital for the last two weeks but we had neither the medicine to treat the child nor nutrients essential to keep it fed, the doctor added. Patients in need of additional treatment to save their lives have to be transferred by sea at the risk of their lives and on our own efforts.
