14 Tamil civilians arrested in Wellawatte still in detention

Fourteen Tamil civilians arrested in a cordon and search operation conducted in Wellawatte area in the Colombo city on Tuesday night when they failed to prove their identity and the reason for their presence in the location, are still being detained in the police station and interrogated, sources in Colombo said.

The police took into custody about 25 Tamil civilians in the operation.

Eleven were released after they proved their identity and the purpose of staying in the location, sources said.
