NGO worker shot dead in Jaffna[TamilNet, Monday, 23 July 2007, 08:48 GMT]Unidentified gunmen shot dead a field officer of Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an International humanitarian organization in Jaffna, at Aanaikoaddai Monday around 8:30 a.m, when the victim was on his way to work at DRC Jaffna office, sources in Jaffna said. The DRC field officer killed was identified as Arumainayagam Alloysius, 26, from Chillaalai south, Pandaiththarippu. Alloysius was married for ten months and his wife is expecting. Alloysius had been a staff of Halo Trust, another International Humanitarian Organization in Jaffna , and had left when Halo Trust discontinued 17 of its staffers unannounced recently. More than 13 Halo Trust staffers had been either killed, abducted or gone missing in the past. Mallaakam District Magistrate Ms. Sarojini Illankovan conducted the inquest into death. The body is kept at Jaffna Teaching hospital for postmortem examinations.
