Sports goods for Vadamaradchi blocked[TamilNet, Tuesday, 08 December 1998, 09:18 GMT]The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) stopped goods allocated by the Jaffna Government Agent (GA) for thirteen sports clubs in Vadamaradchi east on November 8. Each club had been granted sports goods, including volley ball and football sets, to the value of ten thousand rupees by the GA last month. The SLA at the Vallipuram detachment had, however, declined permission to the Divisional Secretary of the area to take the goods and distribute them among the sports clubs. The SLA civil affairs office at Vallipuram did not explain the reasons for its refusal. The army has banned many essential items to the area on grounds that the Liberation Tigers operating there will avail themselves of the supplies.
