Hand grenade attack on candidate house in Ea'raavoor

Unknown assailants threw a hand grenade Wednesday night around 11 p.m. on the house of an independent candidate contesting the forthcoming election to Ea'raavoor Pradesiya Saba, one of the eight Pradesiya Saba and the Batticaloa Municipal Council which go to polls on March 10, sources said.

Police said no one was injured in the attack, but a full inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Meanwhile, postal voting began Thursday in 72 centres in the Batticaloa district for nine local authorities. 934 public servants are qualified to cast their votes.
