[TamilNet, Friday, 16 April 1999, 09:33 GMT]
Mrs. Kannathas Nakenthiraraani of Valvettithurai in Jaffna, who was arrested on April 4, is being detained with her 18-month-old child at the Kankesanthurai detention centre, said human rights sources in Jaffna.

They said that Gowri Suntharalingam of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) visited her and 40 others who are detained there under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) yesterday.

According to her, 13 of them were arrested between April 1 and 12.

Nine refugees and 2 Indian fishermen who were arrested on March 7 while they were on their way to Sri Lanka are also detained at the KKS detention centre.

A police officer said they have concluded investigations into their arrest and the Attorney General's office will have to decide whether to file any charges against the detainees.
