Missing persons' families resolve to boycott Paranagama Commission

The organisations representing the kith and kin of the enforced disappeared Eezham Tamils from the 8 districts of the country of Eezham Tamils came together in Jaffna on Tuesday to denounce the Sri Lankan Presidential Commission to Investigate into Complaints Regarding Missing Persons (PCICMP), which is also known as Paranagama Commission. The families of the missing persons have jointly decided not to take part in any sittings, scheduled to take place at the various Divisional Secretariats in the Jaffna District between 11 and 19 December. The families, expressing solidarity with the Tamil prisoners who have exposed the deceptive designs of the Sri Lankan State have also resolved to step up their protests, including fast-unto-death, in the coming days.

The participants, who got together at Veerasingham Hall, have condemned Colombo's approach to deceive Tamils with minor reparations and death certificates.

“We were relieved to see the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances coming to North and East. But, within a few days after their visit, we now witness the same old saga of ‘Parana’-gama,” a father from Vavuniyaa said.

Instead of investigating the culprits in the occupying SL military, the Paranagama Commission has been insulting those appearing in front of the Commission, the families coming from all the districts said.

The International Community and the United Nations should not fail once again in allowing the deceptive designs of the Sri Lankan State to proceed, the participants said in their emotional address to media.

The meeting has passed a sharp message before the deceptive commission being deployed once again to investigate the cases of missing persons, rights activists in Jaffna said.

The so-called Paranagama Commission was claiming to deliver results for 2,000 cases with a few sittings in Jaffna . But, the affected people have denounced the move and said the commissions appointed by the genocidal State of Sri Lanka have repeatedly insulted them. The intention of these SL investigations is to deceive Tamils with some money and death certificates instead of delivering accountability and establishing the truth, the women participants from Batticaloa said.

“We have been betrayed,” was the slogan of elder generation of participants in the gathering.
