Colombo accelerates demographic genocide along border villages of Batticaloa

Rural Development Society representatives from the villages situated along the border of Batticaloa district in the Eastern Province, complain that their native villages are being systematically Sinhalicised under the Maithiripala regime. The occupying Sinhala military has brought a number of extremist Buddhist monks into these villages in recent times. Buddhist temples (Pansala) and SL military positions have been mushrooming along these villages since 2007 when Sinhala military brought the entire district under its control. The same pattern of structural occupation is also observed along the Tamil villages bordering the Polonnaruwa district, which is the native district of SL President Maithiripala Sirisena.
Maithiripala Sirisena has been the architect of the demographic genocide in the East for several years now. He has been scheming Sinhala occupation through the so-called ‘Mahaweli development’ scheme.
On February 10, 2016, Ven Ambitiya Sumanarathna Thera, the Sinhala extremist monk based in the city of Batticaloa ‘informed’ the Divisional Secretary of Vellaa-ve’li that he was bringing in 50 Sinhala families from Ampaa’rai into Chinna-vaththai village, which was one of the few Tamil settlements created under the Mahaweli scheme.
Tamil villagers from Thu’rai-neelaava’nai, who are in possession of documents proving their ownership to these lands, have approached the RDS representatives to contain the move.
Sumanarathna Thera is also engaged in bringing in more Sinhalese into Kevu’liyaa-madu. The monk has put up four more houses at Kevu’liyaa-madu in recent weeks, according to RDS representatives.
At the same time, occupying Sinhalese are violently confronting the Tamil farmers at the heartland of the cattle farming industry of Eezham Tamils.
The Sinhala paramilitary, known as ‘home guards’, has long been deployed to promote the genocidal land grab and to give protection to the occupying Sinhala colonizers.
The occupation activities are being accelerated through deploying Buddhist monks along the border villages, the RDS representatives say.
The monks have put up Pansalas near the temples of Eezham Tamils at several places. They are also behind involving various SL ministries of the unitary SL State to back their claims of ‘Buddhist heritage’ to justify the occupation of Tamil villages.
The monks also encourage the Sinhala visitors from South to visit these places as pilgrims.
In 1990, before all of the 385 Tamil families were chased away from their native village of Kachchaik-kodi Swami-malai village, a remote village situated in Vellaa-ve’li division of the Batticaloa district along the border of Ampaa’rai district.
The Colombo government has been working against the resettlement of Eezham Tamils in the border villages through keeping them deprived of resettlement assistance while Sinhalese are encouraged to occupy their lands. Only 62 families have so far managed to resettle in their village.
However, the intruding monks have put up two Buddhist pansalas near the place of Saiva worship.
The RDS representatives said the following villages of Eezham Tamils are facing imminent threat of demographic genocide: Kachchat-kodi Swami-malai, Thaanthaa-malai, Adaichcha-kal, Kevu’liyaa-madu, Ka’ndiyan-aa’ru, 35, 37 and 38 Colonies, Central Camp, Chinna-vaththai, Palaach-choalai, Nediya-veddai, Maalaiyar-kaddu and Yaanai-kaddiya-ve’li.
